Color Wheel
I started this painting by using ink and paper using my own thumbprint to create the base of what was to come. I then scanned the image into my computer and edited the brightness and contrast to help define each individual ridge of my thumbprint. From here I increased the size to a 20” x 30” size and printed it out. With each individual ridge being black I covered the printed image with a piece of tracing paper and proceeded to trace each ridge until I was able to fully trace each ridge. From here I transferred the image from tracing paper to a new canvas using a charcoal layer between the two. I then planned out how to paint each individual ridge as I had intended to make a Illiad Color Wheel including a value scale. With my canvas in front of me painted at the ready, I set out and started painting. For the background I matched my skin tone as closely as possible to make it a true representation of myself while also completing my goal of creating the color wheel from my thumbprint. I can proudly say this piece of art hangs in my bedroom as it is one of my favorite paintings I've ever completed. Please see the images below to see my process.
